Has anyone ever seen the cartoon with the голубой puppy and the sailor?

1) Is this supposed to be symbolic?

2) Where could I get a copy here in the U.S., or especially on the Internet?

I somehow managed to miss this cartoon in my childhood. When I was watching it recently, the gay connotations seemed so obvious. There's something going on between the pirate and the cat, too :)

Well some things has definitely moved in the public and individual perception within the last 30 years.
To me, it still remains just a little story for the kids.

there was quality control. Any "hidden jokes" has no chance of appearing on screen. At least in soviet culture. There was no sex on TV in USSR (c)

Hey, don't make me laugh. Soviet censorship was a huge bureaucratical monster, slow and straightforward, and cunning author could outwit it anytime, and many did.

Being heterosexual russian orthodox i just don't like any homosexual propaganda in any form. This is dangerous social desease. Gays have no children. They can't form family. And they are just sick people.
So that ok for me while they stay at home, but not when they insist in mass-media, what their sickness is something normal and even more - popular.

And never forget - all this jokes comes with illustrations. At least when i read this magazines. So kid always can guess the right meaning... until some gays tell him wrong.

So... NO. There are no any gay propaganda in cartoons, made during Soviet era. At all. They was made for kids. To educate them and make them better.

Light blue had a double meaning, as well as many other things in that musical. Many people simply didn't realize it. But the authors surely did.

Well, I remember it as something from beginning of 80'es -- and THAT meaning was already present then, I believe. After all, if you consider lyrics, the suggestion is quite thinly veiled for someone who knows where to look. Kids surely didn't notice anything, but adults -- I believe that it was some sort of tongue-in-cheek joke from producers.

They were bureaucrats at first and at most. If you haven't any experience with that folk -- God bless you, you're really lucky. ^_^ A good bureaucrat doesn't even think, when he's working, he just lives by instruction. So it's not all that impossible to trick the one.

Anyway, such things sorta indicate how spoilt one is. When I first saw the cartoon, I had absolutely no idea about such hidden meanings, and I liked the movie. Later on, when some people began to attach 'the connotation' to it, I used to become sorta annoyed with their attempts, for it didn't seem very witty to me, and then you can do it about most anything, like - see phallos in every carrot. This is not to say how Good I was, - but rather that it can be there, and it can be there not, so it's up to the spectator to see it or not to see it there, and personally I believe it is not necessarily there at all.

No, there was absolutely no such meaning of the word "goluboj" when the movie was released. I can understand how it sounds nowadays ("goluboj, goluboj, ne xotim igrat' s toboj"), but it was only a fable about somebody who's different. Compare with a romantic song of the same epoch: "kogda my byli golubymi". The word stood for everything romantic at that time. Sorry to dissapoint...

Hey, hey, it was "когда мы были молодыми / и чушь прекрасную несли".

However, there was а very popular song of 1960s with the line "снятся людям иногда голубые города".

Well, my point was only that it MIGHT be a tongue-in-cheek joke, not that it definitely was. Word "голубой" certainly already had "homosexual" connotation at that time: just remember Stirlitz jokes originated from the same 70-80'es border, for example this one:

Штирлиц шёл по лесу и увидел голубые ели. Потом он подошёл поближе и обнаружил, что голубые не только ели, но и пили.

And you're certainly wrong about the song. It never mentioned such a word, as it was:

Когда мы были МОЛОДЫМИ,
И чушь прекрасную несли...

The cartoon was produced when "голубой" was just "light blue", not "gay" - even if the latter meaning existed in some layers of the society, it was not at all mainstream, and believe me, the artists of "Soyuzmultfilm" were not exactly rebels or socially progressive or dissidents, they most likely didn't know about the meaning or at least didn't care.

It was just "light-blue puppy", it was not an allusion to the gay subculture or something of that sort.

Why are you so sure? I remember when I heard that word for the first time - and it was in the early 80-s. I am pretty sure my parents knew about it way before then.

No way. It was an ordinary cartoon for children. CF. the SF book "Blue men of the Pink planet" by V.Melentyev, it was popular in 70-early 80. The same case, I think.
