Has anyone ever seen the cartoon with the голубой puppy and the sailor?

1) Is this supposed to be symbolic?

2) Where could I get a copy here in the U.S., or especially on the Internet?

And if it was really that rare of a term at the time, it would be pretty easy for a writer to get it past the bureaucratic censors, eh?

This might take us a little astray from the original question, but I'll ask it anyway:

Голубой, like gay, is a word with a second meaning which developed later. Today, gay is rarely used to mean just happy in America, unless it's some holdover like a cartoon show (The Flintstones come to mind--"we'll have a gay ol' time"). Is it the same with голубой, or does the "light blue" meaning still take precedence?

Light blue is still the main meaning. There are other slang words for "gay", most of them derrogatory. Gay is more or less a neutral word now and definitely has precedence over "happy". "Goluboj" as "gay" is still a marginal slang word, less derrogatory than some others. It's used more like "nut" in the meaning of "crazy". Nut still kept its original meaning :)

Do gay people in Russia have a word they use amongst themselves?

I am sure they do. But I am not a specialist, besides I live in NY :)
I can, however, introduce you to some russian-speaking gay people in LJ and they will be able to tell you. Are you gay, if I may ask?

I am not. Just curious about the words used. Gay roommate, gay parents. Seems a useful word to know. =)
