Doh! I should have thought of asking here earlier.

I want to get Aabby Lingvo on my laptop.

Could someone please point me to a free, downloadable version of Aabby Lingvo, or another Russian-English dictionary that works as well?

I'm familiar with the dozens of onine Russian-English dictionaries. I need an offline dictionary.

Yes, it has to be downloadable. I replaced my CD drive with a second battery, and while the CD drive was uninstalled, someone mistook it for theirs and walked off with it.

What's in an еврей?

So I don't really understand what Russians define an еврей as.

With one rather old man, he said "Ты еврей?" and I go "Нет, я католик." "Не, не. Ты что по национальности?"

And with a Russian молодой человек he goes "А ты как относишься к евреям" and I go "В Америке, никто не задал бы такой вопрос" and another friend goes "Нет, нет. Еврей как религия это одно. Но он про евреев..." and then he goes into a discussion about how евреи are those who are rasschyotlivy (?) with their money and so on and so forth.

So.. what's an еврей for Russians really?

hey guys! i have my russian final tommorow ( i am currently in my first russian course 201) and i just am a little confused about somethings... i hoppe you all can clear them up for me. lol i might be posting more questions later... this language is confusing!! ;D

1) given: я еду в Россию. why is the noun for 'russia' not in the prepositional case?
2) given: Что вы знаете о России. is 'russia' in the prepositional form? and why is that?
3) given: Русские говорят по-русски. the word for 'russians' at the beginning is confusing me. What kind of case is it in and im assuming its plural.... i don't know if someone could just explain the transformation from it's nomtive case.

I have a question about understanding a sentence I'm translating...

...лихорадочные спазмы, в которых тонет фабула, как чертики, появляются и исчезают герои

this is about Moskva-Petushki; the word чертик used here -- would it be a reference to the phrase "напиться до чёртиков"? Or is it something else? I'm at a loss.

hi again.
okay I am given the following statements and I have to try to determine what question was asked before the statement. I have given what I think was the appropriate question... can you comment if you think something is out of place... I am especially curious about the placement of 'ночью' in the last sentance. Should i put it in the beginning or the end of the sentance?

given:
1)Пётр и Вера Смирновы живут в Субири.
2)Сейчас они едут домой на поезде.
3)Это интересная книга.
4)Я ем суп и хлеб ночью.
5)Вера любит Ивана.
6)Слоны идут в зоопарк.
