Do Russians have an equivalent to the American-English phrase: learning experience ?

("Learning experience" is a very good way to put a positive spin on something that was really dreadful...)

Could one say, for example:

Getting thrown off the train in the middle of the night with no money in a country where I didn't speak the language was a great learning experience.

what does сладкогласный mean? it seems like "sweet voiced" and the only translation I found was "sirenic". "Sirenic" has a connotation of danger and deception -- what about the russian word? It doesn't seem so from the context.


context:

В роскошной бедности, в могучей нищете
Живи спокоен и утешен.
Благословенны дни и ночи те,
И сладкогласный труд безгрешен.

i've fallen and i cant say it right...

my dictionary gave two listings for the perfective form of падать: пасть and упасть. this is the first and only time it has done this, so is there a difference between the two? i asked a friend and she said пасть has a negative connotation, but i am still a bit confused. anyone have a better explanation?

also, i need to get a good font for my computer so i can read russian. does anyone know a good free one that i can download. i have windows XP, if that matters.

I have a couple of quick questions.

I have to give a short oral presentation in class, and I've got most of it done, except for a few other things I wish to say. The textbook is lacking, and my professor even admits it, so some help on how to say the following things would be greatly appreciated.

How do I say that I:
am a tall and slender man
have long brown hair
have big brown eyes
am muscular
have a light complexion
