what does сладкогласный mean? it seems like "sweet voiced" and the only translation I found was "sirenic". "Sirenic" has a connotation of danger and deception -- what about the russian word? It doesn't seem so from the context.


context:

В роскошной бедности, в могучей нищете
Живи спокоен и утешен.
Благословенны дни и ночи те,
И сладкогласный труд безгрешен.

Depends on context, I think.
In your poem, сладкогласный труд most certainly means the poet's trade.
Сладкогласный is indeed constructed from сладкий голос (sweet voice) that indeed can be deceptive on times (hence "sirenic").

I'd like to add that сладкогласный is a rather old-fashioned word, which is used mostly in poetry. The modern form of this word is сладкоголосый.

you've got a typo there: сладкоголосый; and it's not technically "short" (as in "contracted", like "isn't" from "is not" or "чтоб" from "чтобы") but rather a poetic Slavonism (http://www.livejournal.com/community/learn_russian/2159.html).
