I realize this has been brought up in the past in this community, but for some reason, the memories feature of LiveJournal isn't working, and I'd rather like an answer to this question:

What is the IPA symbol for the Russian sound "ы"?

I've often seen it compared to similar sounds in Turkish and Romanian, but I've yet to see a satisfactory answer to my question. What class of vowel would it be? Any help (or re-direction to previous discussions on this topic) would be greatly appreciated.

Спасибо.

I'm looking for "fake" Russian fonts--Russian fonts where you type in English, but instead of getting Latin letters, you get Cyrillic. So, for example, if I was able to type "Anna" in Latin characters in Photoshop, then select this "Russian" font, it would look like "Анна".

I'm sure there's a technical term for this, but I don't know what it is. I want a font like this so I can use it with Photoshop, which can't handle Unicode (at least not my version).

Edit: I'm not looking for a program or website that will transliterate Latin into Cyrillic; I can already type in Cyrillic. What I need is a LATIN font that just LOOKS like Cyrillic. Photoshop doesn't allow me to use actual Cyrillic, so I can't simply copy and paste Cyrillic into it (I'd get lots of "????").

After a long period of time, I'm back to reading little children's books. This time: 38 Попугаев

Quick question on etymology. Does anyone know whether or not попугай comes from the Spanish papagayo, or if both of them are derived from Latin or some other language? I just found that out today (that Cubans/other South Americans say papagayo. I say cotorra). May someone help me translate the following?

Words: Проворчать, длинное-предлинное, затараторила, запеть (to chant?)

Phrases: Обычно, когда удав куда-нибудь полз или просто отдыхал, видно было в лучшем случае его большую часть, а остальное лежало где-нибудь в траве или за кустами.

-Можно принимать через каждые два часа по чайной ложке, а можно принимать два раза в день перед едой.

-И в этом он, конечно, прав, ведь это важно очень!

-А вот и нет!

Thanks!

I'm new here, and I'm also new to Russian. I'm hoping this community can help me out, since that seems to be the purpose, so we can all help eachother out.

I'm confused about the word зето and зтот and the different forms. I'm not sure about when to use them. Our test is on wednesday which includes these sections, but I could really use some help. My textbook голоса does not give a very good explaination of this part. It just gives examples. I don't understand when to use each.
