After a long period of time, I'm back to reading little children's books. This time: 38 Попугаев

Quick question on etymology. Does anyone know whether or not попугай comes from the Spanish papagayo, or if both of them are derived from Latin or some other language? I just found that out today (that Cubans/other South Americans say papagayo. I say cotorra). May someone help me translate the following?

Words: Проворчать, длинное-предлинное, затараторила, запеть (to chant?)

Phrases: Обычно, когда удав куда-нибудь полз или просто отдыхал, видно было в лучшем случае его большую часть, а остальное лежало где-нибудь в траве или за кустами.

-Можно принимать через каждые два часа по чайной ложке, а можно принимать два раза в день перед едой.

-И в этом он, конечно, прав, ведь это важно очень!

-А вот и нет!

Ooooh. That's odd. In the context, it wasn't about medicine at all. Here's the whole portion of it.

"Принимаешь? - Обрадовалась мартышка. - А ты кео правильно прнимаешь? - тут же встревожилась она. - Принимать можно разному, - затараторила мартышка. - Можно принимать через каждые два часа по чайной ложке, а можно принимать два раза в день перед едой. Ты как принимаешь?"

So this monkey is apparently afraid of the snake/python's decision. And he tries to go around it, maybe?

heh, no, a first sentence(without context) about medicine only (in 99,9% cases).
a second sentence (with context) is about something like medicine... i mean, it can be some type of food, vitamins... **but, maybe, author mean a sun-bath =\\**

Must be a wordplay on принимать, which means to take (medicine: принимать лекарство), to make (a decision: принимать решение) and to accept (the conditions or the challenge: принимать условия, принимать вызов). Or even to approve (the bill: принять закон)
I don't remember what it was that Удав принимал.

Удав принимал солнечные ванны (was sun bathing or literaly, taking sun bathes), if I am not misteken, which I very well can be. So, мартышка was confusing the meaning of the word принимать

This is actually a Lewis Caroll-ish nonsense. The second part does not say how much of it you're supposed to take, so it implies it comes in drops or something, contradicting the first part.

Concerning попугай: I'm not sure where it comes from, but it's pretty common for Slavic languages; in Bulgarian it's папагал.

Maybe it was initially папагал as well but somehow transfigurated in common speech so that it started to remind the verb "попугай меня", "scare me!"
