You got it wrong. It takes the accusative after за, thus, мне стыдно за кого/что.

Мне стыдно за мой поступок.
Мне стыдно за то, что я сделал.
Мне стыдно за свой вид.
Мне стыдно за свою машину/табуретку.

You don't say, for example, "За чего мне стыдно?". You say "За что мне стыдно?"

All nouns are accusative in here, despite the accusative's "что":

Я люблю мой вид.
Я люблю свою машину/табуретку.

"Что" by itself does not imply the nominative form of the noun.

That's perhaps why our cases are so misleading to foreigners, because we fail to explain them well.
