How common an expression is Я не буду плясать (для тебя/вас)? Can it be understood without any context? And can anyone tell me how сто пудов acquired its present meaning?
Я не буду плясать (для тебя/вас) - is not an expression, it is just a sentence, so I don't exactly get what you mean by it being common or uncommon.
сто пудов means a big weight (пуд is 16 kg), so I guess the meaning transposed into a weighty opinion, and then into something that is undoubtably true.
1. it depends on what you are going to say. "i'm not doing what you want me to" - я не буду плясать под твою/вашу дудку. "i won't dance for you" - я не буду танцевать 2. сто пудов = 100%. but depending on intonation may have meaning - "like i believe you"
1. When one of my co-workers is very angry, she'll say this to her students. I assumed this was an expression, because no one ever says плясать otherwise. I thought it meant something like "I won't work if you won't."
Я не буду плясать под твою/вашу дудку - I won't do what you want if I don't want it. OR You don't have a power over me.
сто пудов (usually стопудово) = exactly, for sure, etc. (Я сто пудов напишу статью до завтра // Она сто пудово даст мне свой номер телефона // Это стопудово была она, я ее узнал)
