Russian Confusion

I am confused about the use of the prepositional case in a situation such as this: I get up at 8 in the morning. In Russian would it be: Я встаю в 8 часов утром or would it be Я встаю в 8 часов утра? The reason I ask this is because I have been taught that when you tell time you would say something to the effect of: Сейчас 8 часов утра. Please help, sorry if I'm not clear.

For the first option, it's better to put the words to the different sequence: "Утром я встаю в 8 часов"

Thank you for translating both! My Russian proff would have (and has) just marked the first one incorrect. But my goal is to be fluent, so such differences do mean something to me. There have been times when I have had to split a full night's sleep in half (nap at night, nap in the evening), and such difference is perfect for the language describing such a situation! :c) :c) (if I understand correctly)

what about your "not clear about everning or morning" - 8 o'clock of evening = 8 часов вечера = 20 часов.

"8 часов" both right to morning and evening.

or "Я встаю в 8 утра." it is more colloquial. For example: "Я встаю в 8 утра, завтракаю и еду на работу."

"Я встаю в 8 часов утром" presupposes an opposition to some other part of the day as if the person in question wanted to say that he/she goes to bed say twice a day and therefore wants to emphasize which of the "gettin-ups" is ment here. The general meaning requires "утра".

Also, there is no prepositional case in this sentence. В requires accusative with expressions of time. Утра is genetive singular and утром is the instrumental singular of утро.
