I am confused about the use of the prepositional case in a situation such as this: I get up at 8 in the morning. In Russian would it be: Я встаю в 8 часов утром or would it be Я встаю в 8 часов утра? The reason I ask this is because I have been taught that when you tell time you would say something to the effect of: Сейчас 8 часов утра. Please help, sorry if I'm not clear.

Я встаю в 8 утра.
Я встаю в 8 часов. (not clear about everning or morning)
Я встаю в 8 часов утра.
or more precise definition after comma:
Я встаю утром, в 8 часов.
Я встаю в 8 часов, утром.

what about your "not clear about everning or morning" - 8 o'clock of evening = 8 часов вечера = 20 часов.

"8 часов" both right to morning and evening.
