on a train i came across a new word. i think it might be a "bad" word so i put it under an ljcut.

in context it seemed to mean steal, is that right? and is it actually a bad word or does it just resemble a few bad words that i know?

I was trying to make an example of the enormous quantity of Russian diminutives that can be made from any given name and only managed to come up with about 3 for each one, so for all you native speakers out there -

How many diminutives can be made from Елизавета?

It's got several syllables so it should be a good one! We can get about 11 diminutives from the english variant...

What is the appropriate thing to put on the card for our Russian teacher who successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation last Friday? Is Поздравления appropriate? Also, we're giving him flowers. Is the tradition that the total number be odd, or that the number of each color be odd? Or both?
