I'm working on some fill-in-the-blank homework, and these are a couple sentences that made me think twice. Do they make sense?

1) Она это сказала из зависти. (She said it out of envy.)

2) Я знаю его от детства. (I know him from childhood.)

These next two are "translate into Russian" exercises. Did I... do it right?

3) Врач запрешал ему плыть. (The doctor forbade him to swim.)

4) Она помогла старей девушке переходить на улице. (She helped the old woman to cross the street.)

Last thing, this other page has us working with motion verbs. These are the ones I'm confused on, I've underlined my answers.

Горбунков не мог уйти из номера гостиницы, потому что его усыпили.
Горбунков решил пойти в булочную поздно вечером.
Горбунков ходил по улице, поскользнулся и упал.
Когда контрабандисты ждали Козодоева, они беспокоились, потому что пароход должен был уйти/ушёл из порта через час. (I can't decide which answer to go with, or even if I'm headed in the right direction.)

As always, thank you for your help, guys. :)

Hi all,

I was reading an English translation of an interview with RFE/RL and Sergei Mikhailovich Mironov, chairman of the Federation Council, and he said "Perhaps, I will disappoint listeners by saying this, but if Russia really wanted to use this factor, there's a Russian saying, 'it wouldn't seem so little'."

Obviously this wasn't translated very well, and I'm curious what the original phrase might be? He was addressing the accusation that Russian is using energy market arbitrage to wield power over other CIS states.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, everybody. I have to give a presentation on Rasputin (in Russian) so I made a Power Point presentation. Is anyone willing to take a quick look at it and see if there are any major spelling, grammar, or vocabulary issues? Here's a link: http://www.umich.edu/~afader/rasputin.ppt. I've had some font troubles working between a Windows machine and a Mac. So, if anyone has problems, drop me a line!

Thanks!
