ahhhh. There are a lot of differences. The text you sent me is more simple. More natural language. For instance in my book he wrote "Vidal" instead of "videl". But
I have book, a bought it at dom knigi in SPb.
So i have to go there and get a later edition i guess...

"видал" is ok, just a little nuance - "видал, что творят, негодяи эдакие", "видал, какой он себе мерседес купил" - to express some indignation "где ж это вИдано, где это слЫхано"
