Now for the difference between чувстовать and ощущать. What exactly IS the difference?

And as for using them, when? I remember having a discussion here early about not saying Я чувстую рад or some sort of feeling when one could use the impersonal construction of "I feel bad/sick/sad" "Мне плохо/больно/грустно."

And on a side note: Does anyone watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force on Cartoon Network? There was this episode recently about Shake and the neighbor guy ordering a Chechnyan mail-order wife and she said "Вы... Мастер Шайк?" then she was disgusted by the fact that she had to deal with these people and said something along the line of "слышутызцщсшчщфдм члфша." In other words, I have no clue what she said. But I did understand "Уходите!" when she went into the house to escape from those people. Anywho, does anyone know what she said Between the "Вы Мастер Шайк" and "Уходите!"?

Yeah. I tried to imagine a CHECHEN MAIL BRIDE. Oh boy. She'd cut the throat of... well, not the poor guy who ordered her, but the one who came to her with the very proposal, by her bare hands. And her countless brothers, step-brothers, cousins, uncles and other male relatives would go for the guy's entire family to restore their relative's dignity by cutting throats, this time with long family knives. Oh boy. This people (I don't mean Chechens) would drive me nuts one day.

Hm, yes. Here in Wild Russia we can only order them in "Soton Claus inc." ("you'll get if you was good"), as a christmas gift.

I should say that "ощущать" refers to fisical sensations. When you feel something with the whole body.
"Чувствовать" is more universal. You can чувствовать радость, счастье, etc.
They can be interchanged in many cases: "чувствовать голод" "ощущать голод".

What I feel is that they are pretty inerchangeable, except that чувствовать is a bit more universal and more widely used. I cannot imagine anybody asking "ты ощущаешь, как становится теплее?" (do you feel how it's getting warmer?) though it's OK grammatically, while "ты чувствуешь, как становится теплее?" is completely OK.

As for the use of "чувствовать". Yes, you cannot use it when an English speaker normally does (I feel bad/good/sad etc.) It normally requires an extension, like in

Я чувствую, что простудился (I feel that I'm getting cold.)
Я почувствовал, что она сердится (I felt that she was angry.)
Я чувствовал, как нагревается камень, на котором я сидел (I felt how the rock I was sitting on was getting warmer.)
BUT:
Он дернул дверь, и я почувствовал толчок (he pulled the doorknob and I felt the door shaking.)

This would still not cover the usage completely, it's just what was right here near the surface so that I could recall it :)

That's right, bit I also think that we can try to explain using the respecive nouns. Чувство is both a sense and a feeling, while ощущение is more of a sense or even a sensation :)

I'm not sure I understand this expression correctly, which means that there is, again, no direct translation. IMHO that would be something like "ты делаешь мне больно" (you make me feel pain) OR "ты оскорбляешь мои чувства" (you insult my feelings,) but, not knowing the expression, I could not insist on this translation.
