What's your favorite Russian word? It can be your favorite because of how it sounds, because of what it means, or for a completely different reason. I'm just curious.

I don't have a favorite, but возможность comes to mind as very pretty and fun to say.

I rather like "shutka" (joke). Something about the word just sounds so right :) I also like negative words/phrases too. "Popugai" (parrot) just makes me laugh.

I also like the word "popugai". It reminds me of Papageno from Mozart's The Magic Flute. Always helps me remember, although it also makes me wish parrots came up more in my limited Russian class conversations :)

My favorite word is взлёт, because, seriously, three consonants plus a palatal semi-consonant [vzljót]? It's just so completely un-English; I love it!

If anyone knows any words that have (God forbid) even more consonants in the beginning of the word, I'd love to know them.

There's a Czech phrase that has no vowels in it whatsoever.

Something like (sorry, no accents):

strc prst skrz krk

It means "stick your finger down your neck" or somesuch.

Apparently Franz Kafka's Czech female "friend" (eh hem) used to taunt him with that phrase, because as a German speaker he had no chance of pronouncing it :)

холодилник!!!! was my first favourite word in Russian (and of course along with household appliances, i really like пылесос as well). I also love the word мороженое cuz it's fun and yummy to say hehe. =))) There are more but I'm too tired to remember them. Silly, sleepy me. hehe.

Oh. I can't believe I forgot how to say this word, but I loved the word for the spots of light that are reflected from mirrors or windows when the sun hits it. I think it literally meant sun rabbits. I just think that's a pretty image.

Russian is such a cool language that I have a major list of favorite words, some already stated. Another one was when I bought my "First 1,000 Russian Words" picture book in where I learned the word "зубная щётка" (toothbrush). And I remember the first time I asked this Russian girl in my school what was apple, and when she said "яблоко" the way she said it, I couldn't stop laughing.
