Hello everyone. This is my first post although I've been looking for a while. My name is Tess. I'm from Minneapolis (grew up FL) but have traveled relatively well for my tender years. What I am writing about is that I would like to be learning Russian, but have been having trouble finding someone willing to teach me - or even just go to stores and talk to me in it, or read books or something . . . Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions? Maybe someone to introduce me to? I would love to contract someone for maybe an hour or two a week for help. None of the schools seem to have anything and I have been looking on the web to no avail. Thanks

Actually I will be taking russian probably this next summer or at the latest fall, but I want to get a head start, not to mention I've been having trouble picking up the alphabets - the writtten is okay, but I don't know what sounds they make. I just want someone to talk to me so I get an ear for it. Of course I would be willing to negotiate what the fee would be. I simply don't know where to ask . . . thanks though.

Oh...well you can simply get a head start by merely going to the bookstore and obtaining the materials early. I took the night course, which was mostly self-teaching anyway, so it is possible to do on your own. I'm sure it doesn't cost that much used altogether. The alphabet is the easiest to learn so you won't have much problem with that anyway.

Er, I don't have any other suggestion for you except that sometimes I see ads in the Daily or flyers around campus about tutors. There are quite a few Russians around here so if you were to place an ad about wanting a tutor you would probably get a response. Maybe find out when the Russian club meets and ask them if anyone would be interested in that. For a short while a few of the members indeed were offering one on one practise.
