I often wonder in Russian conversation when to use "для того, чтобы" and when to simply use "чтобы". Are they interchangeable?

For instance, how would you say the following English phrases:

I went home to visit my father

She went to the store in order to buy milk

She writes poetry in order to better understand her own emotions

One more quick question -- is there a good online Russian dictionary that also shows word stress? I usually use multitran.ru but it doesn't really do this.
