So I am in graduate school and attempting to review the Russian skils I gained in undergrad. I studied abroad in Moscow for a semester and took a Russian film class that I really liked, so I thought requesting some Russian movies through netflix would be a good way to get exposure to listening to russian again and learning some new words. Can anyone provide some suggestions for good Russian movies? Either classics or recent.

Also, I saw a movie in Russia that I really liked, but I have forgotten the name. The plot is basically about this kind of loser of a guy living in the S.U. who dislikes his life. He hears that the prisons in the Netherlands are amazing, so he sneaks out of the SU to the Netherlands and then commits a crime to go to jail. The Dutch prison is this absurd fantasy life where he gets great food, plays soccer, comes and goes as he pleases, etc. Eventually he decides to go back to Russia, and takes all these gifts with him. It is a kind of slapstick comedy. I think it came out in the mid-1980s, early 90s? any ideas!?

Thanks for the help.

This is not specifically a question about Russian language, but I thought I'd ask here anyway.  I'm looking for the names of popular Soviet magazines from the 1960s-1980s, anything that deals with domestic life, pop culture... that kind of thing.  I need to find examples of Soviet advertising for my dissertation.  I won't bore you with the details of the topic, I just need to see if my library has them on microfiche.  Thanks!
