How many words are there in the russian language that mean "to try"

for clearity's sake.

In English, the Oxford Canadian Dictionary defines “to try” as:
1) make an effort with a view to success 2) make an effort to achieve 3) test or experiment 4) make severe demands on a person or quality 5) examine the effectiveness or usefulness of for a purpose…

… and etc etc etc.

thanks for any input!

Is there a way to take an ordinary verb, say "manufacture," and make it so that it's passive?

"The company manufactures toilets." vs
"The toilets are manufactured by the company."

Only, you know, in Russian?

What I *want* to assume (because I'm always full of bad ideas) is that you can just add -ся to a verb and do a little instrumental case action for an instant fix. But... something tells me that's not exactly right.

Any help is awesome! Thanks, guys! :D
