How would I say "Just do it!" in Russian?

My friend says dhe pronounces it is "dtsel eta".

I've never heard of dstel...That's why I'm a bit confused...

сдел этo, maybe? It's derived from сделать, I'm pretty sure. :)

That's what I thought...but the "t" "in the dtsel" is throwing me off...

I can hear it, especially if I put on a heavy accent. If you just had "dsel" it wouldn't work...and besides, it reminds me of how I was telling my students the other day about soft "d's", like at the end of город, for example, it's more like "gorot'". :)

I have always found transliteration to be a pain. I need to just take a few hours and learn the official system, and that would probably clear things up. As of now, I'm just transliterating things however I like, which is probably pretty awful. But the only time it comes up is when I'm trying to help my voice teacher/accompanist figure out where I am (they can't read Cyrillic), or if I'm trying to teach my students a new word (and then I can say it aloud). :)

But in general, transliteration confuses me horribly. Have you ever seen a whole poem/article transliterated, and had to read it? It makes me cry. Give me the "real" Russian, any day!

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. I've never understood why someone would put som much effort into transliterating. I didn't think it took that much effort to learn the real thing.

I agree! It's SO hard to read in someone else's transliteration, unless it's the way I transliterate! Cyrillic is so much easier to read!

сдел is not a word.

imperative from сделать is сделай. "Do it!" - "Сделай это!"
dtsel resembles сделай but very slightly.

It's "просто сделай это!" and there are no sounds like you described there...

there is no "dtsel" or "dstel".
just do it - сделай это / просто сделай это

P.S. and "c" in "сделай" is actually pronounced as "z": "зделай". So, there should not be any "dts". No Russian word has a "дтс" or a "дц" in it.

Yes, I know...but she's from Russia...this is confusing me greatly.

There are three possibilities (presuming that your friend does not have a speech impediment).
a. she might be swallowing some sounds when speaking - it happens when people speak in their mother tongue at normal speed and do not make extra effort to sound especially clear.
b. You might have misheard her. It is very difficult to get all sounds right in an unknown word of a foreign language.
c. She had in mind an altogether different word and we did not guess which one.

I think if you ask her to put it in writing we'll get to the truth eventually :-)

Not in the beginning of the word, to be more precise.
There are indeed some that have дц in the middle, like тридцать, when I think about it.

Perhaps your friend reduces some sounds in pronunciation. I guess he means "сделай это".

"Сделай это" is OK, but a more idiomatic way of expressing "just do it" may be e.g. "возьми и сделай".

Mind, though, that "просто сделай это" isn't a commonplace proverb in Russian.

i agree, nobody says "просто сделай это".. it can be just "вперёд!", or "возьми и сделай!" (that in fact means "just do it", or "just start to do it", "do it yourself" or smth like this)

Notice that the word "это" sometimes means "секс" (after famous book of Шахиджанян "1001 вопрос про это" = "1001 questions about it"). In most situations I'd rather say "Давай!" or "Действуй!" or something like that.

Perhaps, "Ну давай" is better in case of "Just do it"

I'm a russian (Moscow). Don't say "давай сделай это". If you say anybody to begin to do first step - say simple "давай!", "вперед!" (davaj, vperjod).
