Hello, hello. My name is Anne.
I am new to this community and to the Russian language. I started to become really interested in languages halfway into grade 9, and Russian is probably the most interesting to me.

I have been trying to teach myself at home, and I mostly use the book Ultimate Russian. It is pretty good, especially for grammar. Unfortunately, I do not own the book so I have to keep checking it out of the library. I think I might just buy the book, not the tapes since that is really the expensive part ($20 // $75), and check the tapes out when I need them.

So, the point of this entry is really only to say, I am new.

as a supplement to wolk_off's thread about listening to russian radio on the net, i'd like to recommend watching russian TV online! i try to do it often, and i like it a lot, you can get the news (perhaps not unbiased, but...), there's practice with russian, and there's visual input to help you understand things. if you have high-speed internet i highly recommend it.

the most reliable and useful site i've found for this is from www.vesti.ru:
http://www.vesti.ru/fotovideo.html?page=1

click on any of the видео links to watch the corresponding segment from the day's russian news program. it's updated at least once or twice a day, it seems to me.

it's been interesting keeping track of their coverage of the pension/social-welfare 'uprising' of recent weeks.

Hi everyone!
This is my first post here.
First of all I wanna introduce myself:
My name is Slava I'm 22 y.o. from St-Petersburg Russia.

I found this community by chance and it amazed me to learn how many people are interested in studying our language. A very difficult one indeed!
I'd love to help you in your studying process.
You're welcome!

Well... what else should I write here?...
Lemme think....

Ah! I know!

Many Russians make a very vulgar mistake in pronunciation:
There is a verb Звонить in meaning - to call up smb. - the stressed vowel is и
sv in other forms are: позвонит, позвонят, позвоним
Some Russians say: позвонит, позвонят, позвоним

Well... both ways of proninciation are eligible, but if you choose the first one, You'll be regarded as a very well educated person.

Good luck!
