A question for the Russians on this board:

What modern books or authors would you recommend to learners of Russian, assuming that they had a decent grasp of the language?

I'm trying to find interesting who have a good sense of modern Russian culture that don't use so many cultural references that it would go over the heads of people who aren't currently living in Russia.

I hope this isn't annoying, but I am totally -er- fresh to the Russian language. I am planning on posting questions for vocabulary every once in awhile to this community. I hope no one gets annoyed about it...

Will someone tell me how to say the days of the week and the months of the year in Russian? I ask that you tell me the way the words are actually written in Russian, and also how to pronounce them in English... Please.
