I have a (fairly urgent, eek!) vocabulary question: what is the Russian phonetic term for a trilled sound, like /r/? I've tried looking it up, but I can't tell if I'm finding the right word or not.

Edit: Also, can anyone tell me where the stress in "альвеолярный" is? (Is this even the right word?)

Privet Vsem!

I kind of stumbled on this community by accident, and was rather heartened to find other people as crazy as I am.

Requisite boring bio stuff... I've been studying Russian for 7 years now (although 3 of them were in high school and I didn't really learn anything). I went on a study abroad program to Vladimir for a summer and St. Petersburg for the academic year... I'm good at conversing, but my grammar still needs lots of work. (As one of my teachers was kind enough to point out "Vyi mnogo slov znaete. Ne somnevaus' chto vyi vse ponimaete. No vasha grammatika blizko koshmaru") If all goes as planned, I will be going to Grad school next year in Russian Area studies.

So that's me. Hi!

One question... There is this amazing version of the Matrix floating around somewhere in which all of the dialog has been replaced by dialogue from varius Russian multiki (Vinni Pukh, Prostokvashino, Carlson, i. t. d.) as well as Russian rock music. Has anyone perchance stumbled across a link to it or a place to download it?

I'm trying to translate some phrases into Russian and one of the words I need to translate is 'grand'. Now when I looked it up in my dictionary it gave me a few possibilities and I'm wondering which one to use in which situation - assuming that they all have a different meaning. The Russian words I found in my dictionary are возвышенный, величественный, великолепный and гордый. The context I'm using it in is 'I want to lead a grand life', meaning a life full of big and marvellous happenings. Which Russian word should I use? спасибо!!

Does anybody know the correct translation for Царское Село in English? I want to say Kingdom, but not sure that is exactly right...
