And one more question please. Could someone explain the logic behind the forms of the word жара and жар.

It seems that жара is the one that is used commonly. It is not feminine, though is it? For example could you say "такая жара"? When is жар used? Спасибо!

жар - от определённого объекта.
жара - ощущение не от объекта а вокруг тебя.

Жар от печки. Жара - на улице, или в избе, если печку сильно натопить (что-то меня в "клюкву" занесло...)

"Жар" and "жара" are two different words. And yes, "жара" is feminine. The former is used as in "heat radiating from an object", the latter describes the weather around. "It's June, and already it's so hot!" - "Июнь, а уже такая жара".

It IS feminine, and you should say "такая жара".
Жара refers the weather or temperature around in general. "В мае стояла жара." "На улице жара, сними куртку."
Жар means either heat itself or a fever. "От печки исходит сильный жар." "У мальчика сильный жар. вызовите врача!"

Жар most often means fever. Also it's about a wave of hot air coming from something like an oven or sauna or a boiling pot.
Жара is feminine, yes, you can say "такая жара". It means heat as a weather condition. Or in a room with powerful heating 8)

"Жара" stands for climate or environmental conditions. When one needs to hide under a roof to avoid burning Sun or hot air that person could say - "На улице ужасная жара" or "На улице очень жарко".

"В сауне очень жарко" - "It is extremely hot in sauna."


"Жар" could stand for:

- the flammable rest of a fire (pieces of already burned coal or wood in an oven), when there is no actual flame already but one has good chances to re-born the fire by adding new fuel):



- a description of medical conditions: "Он болен, у него жар" ("He is in ill, you don't need a thermometer to prove that"):
