Hi there,

This question is not appropriate for this forum, but maybe someone can help me because I don't know where else to look.

When I was Kazan, I had a traditional tatar treat. It looked like a little pastry cake filled with rice and I think pieces of fruit. Does anyone know what this is called? And if so, where I can get the recipe?

May be it was gubadia - national Tatar pie?:)

"Gubadia is one of the main dishes prepared for large celebrations. Gubadia is a round pie with multi-layer filling, consisting of cort (dried curds), boiled rise, minced meat with passed onion, chopped eggs, raisin, dried apricots or prunes without pits." (recipe on English here - http://www.1000kzn.ru/article/en/727/201/)

or here "GUBADIA (Tatar Wedding Pie)
Here is a favorite Tatar pie -- with layers of meat, rice, chopped eggs, raisins and kort (sweet, dry cottage cheese). It is traditionally served at weddings and big banquets. The recipe below will serve four as an appetizer or a light first course. Double the recipe and and make two pies for a buffet, or four small 4-inch individual pies for a lunch or supper main course." (recipe here - http://www.euronet.nl/users/sota/gubadia.htm)

Could it have been a sweet version of gubadia? I did a Google image search of "gubadia" and some of the results look like your mystery pastry.
