Hello, learn_russian!

In English we can call a place a "hole", meaning it's boring, run down, not visiting/living in, etc. What are some words or phrases in Russian for describing a place you don't like?

Edit: Lol, it's the same? Well, thanks xD

you can use the word "дыра" or even its more expressive form "дырища"

You can also use the colloquial and extremely informal Мухосранск (literally Fliesshitville) or Зажопинские выселки (Butt-and-Beyond settlement). Just remember that those are mildly obscene and can be used in an informal conversation only, with your friends.

And less informal and not obscene Тьмутаракань.

But all these apply only to towns/countries/districts. While дыра could be used for a restaurant, park, night club or anything like that.

With one small correction: it's "Тмутаракань".

You can also use: глушь, захолустье
"Дыра" is slang.

на польском "глушь" можна сказать токло about a place nature (not about a human settlement). How about Russian?

In Russian it's quite well about some remote village or town:
"В деревню к тетке, в глушь, в Саратов" (Грибоедов, "Горе от ума")

There is also word глухомань derived from the same root that is indeed used for some abandoned, mostly forest place.

а если бы сказать "зажопие", будеть туда на много неадекватно?
too strong? ( i.e. offensive)?

yes, зажопие,зажопинск e.t.c. is quite strong, not to use if you are not sure that it will not offend

Мухосранск = it's more about some geographically far away place, like - Она живет там где-то в своем Мухосранске. While "дыра" can be a place inside the city or a particular visiting place, like - Я был в этом клубе, дыра дырой. But also can be used as a meaning of "uninteresting", "not modern" place - like "Цивилизации никакой, просто дыра". Of course, "дыра" is much closer to literature while Мухосранск is an absolute slang.
