RESERVE (at an auction)
Jan. 6th, 2009 06:36 pmWhen items are sold at an auction, the seller will usually place a "reserve" on the item. This is the sum below which the sale will not proceed. If the bidding stops at a sum below this reserve, the item is taken back by the seller. If the bidding stops at a sum higher than the reserve, the highest bidder then owns the item being sold. The reserve price is not disclosed to the bidders.
