We say in English "It is essential ....".

It means compulsory, very necessary, urgent, there is no choice etc.

"It is essential we warn the driver, otherwise the train will hit the car which is on the railway track".

"It is essential that this man has an operation; if not, he'll die".

How do you express this in Russian, please ?

"очень важно"

or
"жизненно важно" (matter of life and death)

or
"необходимо"/"срочно необходимо"

"It is essential that this man has an operation; if not, he'll die" - "Этому пациенту срочно необходима операция, иначе он умрёт."

In your examples it's "необходимо" but the other variants are also right (not in these sentences though).

I agree with everyone but just want to add in that if you're saying "It's essential that you ________" then it takes a dative complement - "Тебе необходимо ________ть"

"Мы должны(срочно) предупредить водителя, иначе поезд ударит машину, стоящую на железнодорожном пути." It is enough to use modal verb here.
Or: Нам необходимо (срочно) предупредить водителя, иначе поезд ударит машину, стоящую на железнодорожном пути."

поезд ударит машину does sound really bad. собьёт машину, or столкнётся с машиной. actually - the second one is much better.
