Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me the difference between босоножки and сандали?

босоножки is women's footwear. Босоножки usually have higher heels and are more elegant.
сандали are rather men's or child footwear, but I suppose women may wear it too, but I'm not sure :)
I think сандали have lower heels or may have not heels at all.

I suggest you to search in Google pictures for сандали and босоножки and you'll see the difference :)

Сандалии (sg form is сандалия, f) are definitely without heels or with very small ones. Women wear them as much as men and children do.

Have you ever seen Aincient Greek or Roman footwear? That is what сандалии really are (or were), so they can't have heels ;)

The word босоножки means any women's footwear that doesn't have toes.

Сандалии.
Type 1: when a plain, heelless sole is attached to a leg using system of belts.










Type 2: summer [usually women or children] shoes, when the toes are covered by a round, solid cap and and there is a stripe, fastening the shoe to the ankle and often hiding the heel.








Шлёпанцы.
When the heel is not fixed and toes are open. When you walk in this, they make a sound slap-slap, or in Russian шлёп-шлёп.






Босоножки.
Any other fancy women summer shoes, that are meant to be used without socks (босые ножки = naked footies).
And besides, that does not match the above criteria for сандалии and шлёпанцы.
For example, they have high heel, the tip is not funny-round, there is nothing on the heel, etc.
