Меня зовут Лесли, я только что создала этот ЖЖ–аккаунт для своих записок на русском языке. Я уже несколько лет изучаю русский язык, но я все–таки постоянно ошибаюсь, и я надеюсь, что участвие в этом сообществе будет мне полезно!

Начинаю с вопросом:
Какая разница (если есть) между "снова," "еще раз" и "опять"?

И если хотите, добавьте меня в ленту друзей! У меня пока нет русскоговорящих друзей на ЖЖ, как грустно. Ищу друзей, которые часто пишут в своих "журналах" по–русски...

My name is Leslie, and I just started an LJ account for my notes in Russian. I've been studying Russian for several years, but I still make mistakes all the time, and I hope that participating in this community will be helpful (and also hope I can help others)!

I'll begin with a question:
What's the difference (if there is one) between "снова," "еще раз" and "опять"?

And if you'd like, friend me! I don't have any Russian-speaking friends on LJ yet, how sad. I'm looking for people who write in their journals in Russian with some frequency.

There is almost no difference, as far as I know. Only nuances. In common speach you can use any of them.

about снова, еще раз, опять - i can't really say, my first thought was that there was no difference) all mean "once again". maybe there is some slight difference in usage, but i can't remember...

You russian is very good indeed. My english is much worse :)

Virtually no difference. In common speech all this words are interchangeble.

I believe that "снова", "еще раз" and "опять" are pretty interchangeable. At least I cannot right away think of an example where one of them, but not another, would be acceptable. Maybe someone else will find one.

There is also practicerussian community - you may want to post there or post links from your journal so people check what you have written.

А я только что вспомнил, когда выражение "ещё раз" не вполне уместно, и теперь пытаюсь сформулировать правило, которое могло бы кратко и полностью это выразить...

1. Сегодня опять идёт дождь.
2. Сегодня ещё раз идёт дождь.

1. Соседи опять шумели до поздней ночи, мешая мне спать.
2. Соседи ещё раз шумели до поздней ночи, мешая мне спать.

В обоих случаях вторая фраза звучит неестественно.

As to your suggestion, you might be right. It's possible that ещё раз is better suited to the perfective ("снова шел дождь" vs. "соседи еще раз пришли жаловаться"). However I am not sure.

добавлю, что в первом случае слово "опять" можно заменить на "снова". Слово "снова" звучит более литературно, а "опять" чаще встречается в разговоре.

по поводу "еще раз" приходит в голову только "попробуй еще раз")))

Я потрясён. Ваш русский просто самый лучший, и уж гораздо лучше среднестатистического русского, который используется русскими в интернете.
По вопросу могу лишь добавить, что есть такая поговорка "не опять, а снова". Правда она бредовая, но она есть.
Пример:
- Ну вот, опять эти уроки делать!
- Не опять, а снова.
Ещё есть "опять, двадцать пять (25)".

I'll try to answer your question, though I'm not a linguist...

These words have close meaning but there is some difference. These words are used in different context.

"еще раз" is like "one more time" and is used in the same situations. E.g.: "Повторите, пожалуйста, еще раз."
"снова" is like "over again". E.g. "Он повторял это снова и снова."
"опять" is like "once again". E.g. "Опять ты опоздал!"

I suppose that "снова" and "опять" can be interchanged in most cases.

I agree with all commented above: your russian is almost perfect. Only several mistakes, and they are not eye-catching.
About "снова", "еще раз" and "опять": I'd differentiate them like this:
You should use "еще раз" when talking about future action or in an imperative sentence, like "Сделай это еще раз", "Я еще раз повторюсь: ...", "Я хочу еще раз прочитать эту книгу". "Опять" and "снова" are more often used in past situations ("Ты опять разлил воду?", "Ты снова допустил эту ошибку"). The difference is very slight, and for me it can be stated in this way: use "опять" when you talk about routine - slightly negative; "снова" has more positive meaning.
That means that they are not always interchangeable.

Снова and опять are interchangeable, there is even a proverb "не опять, а снова" playing on this. I think опять is a bit aggressive and emotional while снова is neutral.
Еще раз is different from these two, it implies an action and cannot be used with "to be" forms, for example I can say:
Мне опять весело.
but cannot:
Мне еще раз весело.

For a more complicated example a boss could say to an employee who came in late:
Опять опаздал? or Снова опаздал?
but could not say Еще раз опаздал? because опаздал here does not bear enough action even though it's a verb. On the other hand the same boss could continue with:
Еще раз опаздаешь - уволю!
or someone talking about this incident in the future could say "Ну он и еще раз опаздал и его уволили".
This is because when boss is complaining he does not talk about the action of being late but rather about the state of being late then, when threatening, the boss means the action of one becoming late in the future. Hope this made sense.

I've met "на ЖЖ" before. I believe it has something to do with the expression "на интернете", which itself seems to be a literal translation of the english "on the internet". "На" in these both cases is less frequently used than "в", but both variants do exist. Russian writer Tatiana Tolstaya uses "на интернете", "на ЖЖ" and she looks absolutely happy with that :O

"on" like "sur" (in French) in Russian is not using in speaking about the Internet (on my webpage, on the Internet, on the LJ etc.). In Russian preposition "on" (на) means "on smthg's surface" like "on the bed", "on the floor"...

"снова" usually means that is second time, maybe third...
"опять" - something happens so often that it becomes disturbing or suprising.
It is not always so, but I'm just trying to emphasize subtle differences.
