At work tonight, a guy asked me if I knew how to say, "What's up with cheese?" in Russian. Don't ask why. And... I don't. So if anyone knows, it'd be much appreciated.

That and how to say "cheddar cheese" and "shut up."

"What's up with cheese?" - do you mean to literally ask what happened with some cheese, or is that an idiom I don't know?

cheddar cheese - сыр чеддер
shut up - заткнись (заткнитесь in plural)

It is an idiom. I think it comes from American comedians. Taking a phrase that makes sense like "What's up with the government?" and applying it to something like cheese for absurd humor.

I believe it comes from Jerry Seinfeld (or parodies of him), though that might be, "What's the deal with x?"

Literally it's "что с сыром?"; may change a good deal if we define the context - for example, if it's "we agreed that we were goona have some cheese, but where's the cheese then, doggone it?" then it's "а где [же] сыр?", but if it's "I hoped we would have some cheese, but what happened to the cheese we have, blimey, it's stinking!" then it's "[а] что [это] с сыром?".
