здравствуйте!
I'm quite new to the Russian language, and am having a bit of a translation problem, I could really use your help.

There is this documentary I'm trying to download from a Russian site, but I keep getting an error. Trying to figure out the problem, I started a post on it (with a horrible internet translator) and said this:

Привет! Я, не может казаться, загружаю этот документальный фильм .., что я делаю неправильно?

The user replied as such:
Может Вы нажимаете прямо на ссылку ? Таким образом в настоящее время невозможно загружать файлы. Нужно входить ФТП-клиентом (например тотал командер или другим) на ФТП и вводить вместо логина: kanon, пароля не надо. Тогда закачка будет происходить.

With my limited Russian Knowledge and my dictionary, I got a little confused with what he is saying. I think he's asking me to specify the problem, else he can't help me much. I want to reply, but instead of using a online translator, which I think screwed up my question, I starting writing back with my limited knowledge. This is my reply:

Спасибо за ваш ответ!
пожалуйста извините, я только немного говорю по-русски.
когда я пробую загрузить файл (as in right click>save as), я получаю 530 отказ, которые говорйть "нет Анонимного доступа, позволенного" (вот - пример)
Однако, я зарегистрирован в вебсайт Канон.Я действительно хотел бы наблюдать этот замечательный документальный фильм.
Большое спасибо за вашу помощь или совет!

And in English:

Thanks for your reply!
I apologize if my answer is oddly worded, I'm quite new to the Russian Language.
What happens when I try to download the file (as in right click>save as) I get a 530 Error which says ""No Anonymous access allowed". (here is an example)
However, I am logged into the Канон website. I would really like to view this wonderful documentary!
Thank you so much for your help or advice!
Warmest Regards,
Laura

My question is.. did I read his responce right? And how accurate is my Russian to my English responce?

I really appreciate any help on this. You guys have been such an awesome and supportive group.
Warmest,
Laura ^_^

He's not asking you to specify anything. He says that you cannot download the file this way; you should use an ftp client and enter "kanon" as login, with empty password.

They said that you cannot download the movie from link. You need to use ftp client(a software program that lets you use the File Transfer Protocol) to download anything from that site. When you access ftp web site with ftp client( ypou can download this software - http://www.ghisler.com/ if you don't have it on your computer), it will prompt you for a login and password. On this site, you login name will be "kanon" and you won't need a password.

You can use Far manager as FTP client as well.

Don't forget to read documentation in Russian ("license" file or something like that) for a free registration procedure.

There is the way to download files from such servers using browser.
You may copy link, paste it into address bar and add login (and password, if needed) before server name, delimiting it from server name by '@' symbol.
E.g. original (anonymous) URL is: ftp://ftp.server.com/file.zip
Non-anonymous URL looks like: ftp://login@ftp.server.com/file.zip, or, if password is used, ftp://login:password@ftp.server.com/file.zip

furthermore - i am quite sure, you already have a totally free FTP client (actually - you even have two of them). first of all - explorer (and all the mozillas and operas) itselve is an ftp client, you only have to know how to feed all the needed data into them.
in your case you should try to do the following - rightclick that link, choose "copy link location" or "copy shortcut" (depends on what SW you are using), then leftclick into addressbar, delete whatever is there, paste the link there (press ^v, Shift+Insert or through rightclick). now you will see there something like ftp://cool.domain.ru/directory1/directory2/moovie.avi. what you have to do - right after "ftp://" and before the hostname - write the username (in your case it's kanon), then colon, password and, finally, at (that snail-like letter you use in email adresses). i guess, it will look something like ftp://kanon:@cool.domain.ru/directory1/directory2/moovie.avi (no need for password, you remember? so it's empty.) note that there are NO SPACES in that address.

the second option (and second FTP-client) is built in in windows (starting with windows 95) and all the UNIXes also. it's plain old command-line ftp client. just press start, run, write there "ftp", press enter, and voila - it's started and waiting for you to enter some commands. if you are not familiar with command line - this page (http://www.textheavy.com/tutorials/winftp.html) is a good starter.
