A little off-topic, I think, but I promise it relates to my study of the Russian language!

Since I was 10 or so, I'd been listening to anime music a lot (not so much anymore, but yeah), and I found that singing along with the words and looking at translations (out of curiosity) of the songs actually helped me learn some Japanese (and get pretty good at pronouncing it) without ever taking a lesson or opening a book.

So, once I started learning Russian, I wanted to do the same thing. I discovered lots of Russian music that I like, and I listen to it. But it's a liiiitttle more difficult to sing along to than Japanese, so I looked up the lyrics. However, translating isn't so easy.

Does anyone have a link to a site that might give translated lyrics for Russian rock music (specifically Mumiy Troll (Мумий Тролль). I love them!)? I'd rather not post a "WHAT DOES THIS SAY LOL" post here for every song I'd like translated. I figure it'd be easier if there was a site.

Thanks in advance!

Russmus.net has a lot of translations for Russian songs, not so many for Mumiy Troll though. Also, their songs are kind of ungrammatical sometimes, and Ilya pronounces things funny (or is it some sort of regional accent? I dunno). But if you like them go ahead and listen, just keep that in mind.

Had you listened to russian rock-group Ария? Their grammar is much more than ok;)
Yes, songs of Мумий Тролль are really weird grammatically:)

It's not a regional accent.

Two great sites dedicated to the legendary Russian rock-group "Kino". They have a LOT of translations of the songs.

Heh, I started out learning practically all my Russian off Kino songs. There was a weird phase in my vocabulary where I couldn't say hello but knew the words for "snow", "ice", "sorrow" etc. I bet Tsoy was really popular at parties ;)

Same thing with my Japanese, except that you can hear words like "thank you" and "hello" even in space opera anime that I love. :)

Tsoy is popular even now, and I think he always will be. There's something never aging, undying in his songs.

I believe it's a waste of time trying to translate Мумий Тролль songs.
Just take any English words that fit in rhythmically, like their leader Илья Лагутенко does with Russian words.
His songs are like "twas brillig and the slithy toves did gire and gimble in the wabe..."
It will take some crazy translator genius like Самуил Маршак to translate it into "воркалось, хливкие шарьки пырялись на нове".

No Fear

Fear no, no fear.
I walk on water, but not on ice.
You recline and you smile,
You squint your eyes and you zero in.

You think that you are thinking,
But do you really think?
The reflection of beauty appeared on the horizon.
You are entwined in a sweet tape,
You unroll yourself, you stick to everything.

It pleases you, you please yourself,
When it pleases you, then you please yourself.

Apparently-apparently not,
Visibility - zero.
The alcohol still has not begun to take effect.
The Earth falls away, you are frightened,
You put up a fight, but you give in.

Candies-confetti are entered into the stakes.
Maximum volume and I'm the champion.
When all the shows begin,
It pleases you, you please yourself.
