To crack a case
Jun. 23rd, 2007 02:18 amDear Community,
Could you please help me to figure out the use of case in a particular sentence? I’m not sure why the word систему in the below sentence is in the accusative and not, as I would expect, in the prepositional, i.e. системе, based on the foregoing preposition “о” that seems to have governed the inflection of both the preceding noun “сохранении” and participle “действующей”, as well as the subsequent “дающей”. What am I missing here?
Thanks in advance for your input.
Kind regards,
ФБ
“По сообщениям из немецких дипломатических кругов, речь идет о сохранении до 2014 года действующей сейчас систему голосования, которая была принята в Ницце в 2000 году и дающей Польше почти столько же голосов, сколько и Германии.”
UPDATE: Case cracked. Should read "о сохранении....системы голосования", (genitive case). Thanks everyone.
