Dear Community,

Could you please help me to figure out the use of case in a particular sentence? I’m not sure why the word систему in the below sentence is in the accusative and not, as I would expect, in the prepositional, i.e. системе, based on the foregoing preposition “о” that seems to have governed the inflection of both the preceding noun “сохранении” and participle “действующей”, as well as the subsequent “дающей”. What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Kind regards,

ФБ

“По сообщениям из немецких дипломатических кругов, речь идет о сохранении до 2014 года действующей сейчас систему голосования, которая была принята в Ницце в 2000 году и дающей Польше почти столько же голосов, сколько и Германии.”

UPDATE: Case cracked. Should read  "о сохранении....системы голосования", (genitive case). Thanks everyone.

Actually, there ISN'T any problem, just a typo. It should be "системы", not "систему".

Because preposition refers to the preceding noun, "сохранение", which is indeed in prepositional.
"[Judging] by the messages from German diplomatic circles, it's all about keeping the currently running system, which was adopted in 2004 in Nice and which gives Poland almost the same amount of votes as it does to Germany, until 2014".

And it's not prepositional here, but genitive, because "о" refers to noun "сохранение", which in turn governs "система".

Besides that:
которая была принята в Ницце в 2000 году и дающей

dependent clause is marked out by commas

"которая" и "дающей" do not look very good standing next to each other. Either it's принятой <...> и дающей or которая была принята и которая дает

and yeah, no comma here because these parts of the sentence are homogeneous
