Не факт.
If you mean "going to specific event" - на.
If you mean "going to the opera house/going to an opera" - в.

In most cases they would be interchargeable.

But I've never heard people saying it that way. Usually they mention in which particular opera theater they work. Like: «Я работаю в Большом Театре».

Yeah, that would be a strong case, you can't say "я работаю на опере".

Form for "the Opera" would be "я {пою/играю/принимаю участие} в опере {название}".
