hey! okay I have a couple more sentances I'm not too sure if I am changeing (is it called declention?) properly... but the good news is I think (I hope) I'm starting to get the hang of useiing acc. gen. and prep. cases.

У нас большая квартира. Рядом автобусная остановка, но нет хорошего магазина.

В нашем доме большие окна.

В нашей квартире большая кухня, но нет балкона.

У моей сестры небольшая, но и светлая комната.

Рядом живёт профессор математики. У этого старого профессора везде книги, даже в тулете!

У каждого соседа есть место в большом гараже.

У нас тоже есть место в гараже, но у нас нет машина!

у нас нет машинЫ (the negation requires genitive)

actually there're several good variants:

У моей сестры небольшая, но светлая комната (2nd part is the upside (the room has lots of light), 1st is the downside (it's small)) -- you're voicing your opinion/thinking about the room properties

У моей сестры небольшая светлая комната -- you're just stating the facts about the room

As for но и together, they can be used together like in the original sentense, but in a different kind of case with a different meaning:

Вова (не только) не хочет учиться, но и играть он тоже не хочет. Вова болен.
Here и is making a union of учиться and играть and Vova doesn't want both, hence и. But но is here to oppose учиться and играть because they're possible alternatives and as we know, usually one is preferred over the other. But in this case these two opposite activities aren't desired (which is why и) and но in front of the 2nd one is just to surface the other impossible possibility.

"У всех жильцов есть место (или места) в гараже" sounds better

In the first sentence, shouldn't "Рядом автобусная остановка" be "Рядом с автобусной остановкой"? As far as I know Рядом is used with the preposition с followed by the instrumental case.

Рядом автобусная остановка is perfectly OK as a sentence, meaning "the bus stop is nearby". This IS which is absent in the present tense in Russian will surface if you put the sentence in the past tense: рядом была автобусная остановка. I guess here рядом is an adverb. In the phrase that you quote, Рядом с автобусной остановкой, "Рядом с" is something like a complex preposition, which requires the Instrumental case. But on the whole, У нас большая квартира. Рядом с автобусной остановкой. sounds a bit weird, same as its English translation "We have a large appt, next to a bus stop". A building can be next to a bus stop, but not an appt on its own?

I'll allow that this might have been written in haste, but LJ has a spell-checker and there's no need for you to have this many misspellings in your post (four in just the first sentence). It makes it difficult for Russians trying to understand what you're asking if you write "useiing" instead of "using".

У нас большая квартира. Рядом ЕСТЬ автобусная остановка, но нет хорошего магазина.

it's better to say
"У наших соседей есть места для стоянки в большом гараже".
i think so.
