Could someone comment on the different conversational uses of the verb получаться? I've heard my co-worker use this verb many times in conversation, I believe in the form of "мне получается," but I've had trouble figuring out the meaning since this verb seems to be pretty versatile in dictionary definitions. Thanks!

So can получиться be used negatively to me "I was not able to do something"?

e.g. К сожалению у меня не получилось что-то сделать

Yep, you can say 'не получается', and it's mean 'something goes wrong'.
