Doh! I should have thought of asking here earlier.

I want to get Aabby Lingvo on my laptop.

Could someone please point me to a free, downloadable version of Aabby Lingvo, or another Russian-English dictionary that works as well?

I'm familiar with the dozens of onine Russian-English dictionaries. I need an offline dictionary.

Yes, it has to be downloadable. I replaced my CD drive with a second battery, and while the CD drive was uninstalled, someone mistook it for theirs and walked off with it.

For some Russian content... here's the opening lines of Eldar Ryazanov's

My russian is so bad, that's as far as I've gotten in the movie.

As everyone knows, toil makes one a better person, which is why people go to work.

Personally, the only reason I go to work is to be a better person.

(Entrance to office: Sign shows "Statistics Insittute"... Учреждение (? I don't know this word))

If there weren't statistics, we wouldn't even suspect how well we work.

Lyudmila Prokofievna Kalugina, director of our statistics institute.

She knows the business that she manages. Sometimes such a thing is possible!

She comes to the office before everyone, and leaves after everyone; thus it is understood that she isn't married.

We call her "Our Mimra", of course, to eyes. (to her face?)

As everyone knows, toil humanises people, whichmakes them enjoy working.

Perosnally the only reason I work is just because it makes me more humane.

Sign reads: "Statistics Insitute"

Without statistics we wouldn't even suspect how well we work.

This is Lyudmila Prokofievna Kalugina, director of our Institute.

She knows her business. This happens sometimes!

She's always the first to come and the last to leave, which implies that she's unfortunately single.

We call her "Our Mimra" - of course, behind her back.

учреждение = establishment. inapropriate here, i find.

I agree with everything except for your interpretation of this particular sentence:

Она знает дело, которым руководит.

It does not mean "she knows HER business" but exactly what it says: she knows the trade she is managing, and that is not to be taken for granted because at this time administrators were often promoted upon their ideological merits and standing with the Party, so you could have had the institute headed by someone who had not the slightest idea about statistics.

P.S. учреждение is also institution, office, etc.
