Hi guys. Can you help translate these? You'll be helping me help a friend in Moscow for his English lessons. I need to convey the passive voice in the sentences when they do exist.
Can anyone elaborate on what subjective and objective participles (participials in Misha's book) are. Thanks so much in advance!

When I rang the bell, the dog could be heard barking in the hall.

In his talk with my father, the visitor was heard mentioning some accident

She was seen listening to him, trying to catch every word.

The painter was found putting the finishing touches to a picture of a beggar man.

The beggar himself was seen standing on a raised platform in the corner of the studio.

Claire’s footsteps were heard crossing the room.

IMHO: this community is not exactly for cheating with school homework.

It does not matter under what circumstances a person is studying. This community is for helping people in their studies of a certain language, not for doing their homework for them. A massive translation of a large chunk of text obviously does not qualify as "a little help." Since you are not a novice here, you know that people in such circumstances normally show both the original text and their attempts to translate, and ask for help in improving that. That is not done here, you are just asking for translation of the whole sentences.
And, last but not least, it is [livejournal.com profile] learn_russian, while the person you speak about, obviously, learns English. There is [livejournal.com profile] ru_learnenglish, and this type of questions definitely belongs there.

Oh for crying out loud, it's just a LiveJournal community. And this hardly qualifies as a large chunk. Is this the only thing in your life that you can make a big deal about?

Oh be sure I can make a big deal about nearly everyhing, including unnecessary reprimands to moderators. I am a very nasty person and a senseless tyrant. I admit that. Does that make you feel really good? ;-)

It was kind of hard to keep passive voice and make these setences to sound OK in Russian. I tried my best:

Когда я позвонил, в коридоре послышался собачий лай.
В разговоре посетителя с моим отцом упоминалось о каком то происшествии.
Её видели слушающей его, пытающейся поймать каждое слово.
Художника застали наносящим завершающие мазки на портрете нищего.
Самого нищего можно было видеть на возвышении в углу студии.
Шаги Клэры были слышны когда она персекала комнату.

In most of these the passive voice cannot be preserved. If it is, the phrases will sound highly unnatural, like calques from English (which they would be)
