few quick questions:

"i never imagined i'd have a kid" (or "become a mom" or something similar, saying to an old friend not spoken to recently)
я никогда ни
представила себе мама / маму или воображала что... ???

if saying that, (surprisingly) i love being a mom, seems like
"я люблю материнство" may be a bit too much like stating the obvious, but "мне нравиться материнство" an understatement... how might this be put in russian?

next topic:
i found the "translation" below in a dictionary, but i think i'm not using the correct russian phrase. if it is, then i'm not sure how to finish the sentence-
"a while ago i found myself thinking about you all...(and etc.)"
"недавно, я ловила себя, думая на том, чтo..."
yeah, that seems fairly wrong.
and doubtless not
"я нашла себя, думая о вас"...

yet another one:
"then i stumbled onto some old photos of us..."
потом, я набрешла несколка фотографий нас /о нас
or
потом, я натыкалась (несколка фотографий нас /о нас)

and then if i want to say "i started trying to make some sort of art project with them (these photos)
i'm certian i should not say either
я начинала стараться строить художественный проект
or
я начинала работать на проект с этими фотографами
and this is all to be understood as a person just fooling around with some photos, not a serious / actual "artist" or "art" just a personal project.

i've never really seen much like this in this community. is this sort of questioning appropriate?

Я никогда не представляла себя в роли матери / Я никогда не думала, что буду матерью.
Мне нравится быть мамой (Мне нравится материнство literally means "I love motherhood" - I don't think that this is what you wanted to say).
Недавно я поймала себя на том, что думаю о вас (if this happened once) OR В последнее время я ловлю себя на том, что думаю о вас (if this happens a lot recently)
Потом я наткнулась на кое-какие наши старые фотографии /на фотографии, где мы сняты вместе

Я затеяла/начала делать что-то вроде произведения искусства (коллаж?) из этих фотографий

Please note that the word проект is not much used in Russian in this sense. Проект is usually something official that you do at work.

"Я никогда не представляла себя в роли матери" seems to be the most universal of all the variants. More neutral, as well.
What I'm trying to say - that's the best phrase to use for "i never imagined i'd have a kid":)

"i never imagined i'd have a kid" (or "become a mom" or something similar, saying to an old friend not spoken to recently)
1) "я никогда не думала, что могу стать мамой" (never considered the possibility of becoming a mom)
2) "я никогда не представляла себе, как это - быть мамой" (never imagined what it would be like to have a kid, what it would involve, require etc.)

if saying that, (surprisingly) i love being a mom,
"мне нравится быть мамой"

"a while ago i found myself thinking about you all...(and etc.)"
"недавно я поймала себя на том, что думаю (вспоминаю) о нас" (i'd rather say more precisely whom i mean by "us", for instance "что думаю о нашем классе/группе/компании" or "что вспоминаю наш класс/группу/компанию", would sound more russian)

"потом, я наткнулась на наши старые фотографии/снимки/фото"

"i started trying to make some sort of art project with them (these photos)
"я попробовала провести их художественную обработку (этих фотографий)" (well, here again i'd use a more precise description of what and by means of what i was doing it, like "я начала работать с ними в Фотошопе" or "я начала обрабатывать их в Фотошопе, чтобы сделать из них коллаж" - smth. like that)
