Yes, it is. "Или... или" can be "either ... or". I cannot think of any other usage right now.

"или же" = "or else, or alternatively"

If "or" doesn't correspond to the context, it could be a typo. Someone could miss a letter in an other word, for example: жили, пили, шили, мили.

No, no, it's just a word that I see often. I looked it up and was told that it meant "or", but just wanted to verify, in case I was wrong.
