"или" is "or", right? If so, are there any other meanings? If not, what does it mean?

Yes, it is. "Или... или" can be "either ... or". I cannot think of any other usage right now.

"или же" = "or else, or alternatively"

If "or" doesn't correspond to the context, it could be a typo. Someone could miss a letter in an other word, for example: жили, пили, шили, мили.
