[identity profile] mr-meaniocrity.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] learn_russian
A purely English speaking friend of mine received a comment in Russian in some community, probably one of a photographic nature. I, knowing little Russian, have no clue, but fear it is of some offensive nature. Could anyone assist?

чо ето за хуйня блядь

Ужоснах.....

Выпий йаду-убей себя!

It is indeed offensive, containing nothing but obscenities. The best way is to delete the comment and (if possible) ban the author.

Something like that, indeed, but heavily misspelt according to the latest trend ("падонки" style). The approximate English equivalent would be

What kind of f***ing crap is this
Horri-f***ing-ble
Drink poison and kill yourself

(Автор), Выпий йаду-убей себя!

(Author), drink poison - kill yourself!

Slang. Meaning - the work you just done is completely worthless.

If converted to normal language it'd mean something like this:

what a [stupid stuff] [an offencive interjection]
[very bad]
Drink some poison-kill yourself!

"Чо" = "что"
"ето" = "это"
"ужос" = "ужас"
"выпий" = "выпей"
"йаду" = "яду"
It is a kind of popular internet slang based on distorted spelling. Something like "wazzzzup" instead of "what's up".

The rest is a number of highly offensive words.

could you say that the spelling is somewhat like the russian equivalent of americans typing 'lyke dis'?

Yes, completely right. It's called "падонкаффский" язык (derivative from "падонки" <- "подонки" "bad guyes") and it had originaly appeared in the Internet, but lately started to conquer the off-line as well. I guess, you can find a lot of information about it through yandex.ru, google.ru/google.com etc. The main site "падонкаф" is http://www.udaff.net/

this is modern ru-net slang.
translated into "normal" russian it would possibly look like

"что это за хуйня блядь
Ужас на хуй
Выпей яду - убей себя"

which translates into english as

"what the fuck is that bullshit?
Fucking dreadful
Drink poison - kill yourself"

it is rather rude, though you, or your friend should not get offended to some runet users who went insane of realising the possibilities of being anonymous

lol
it's very funny to read how you're trying to spell "падонкаффский" language into English. lol again.

>it is rather rude, though you, or your friend should not get offended to some runet users who went insane of realising the possibilities of being anonymous

I want to ask - do you think we use it in real life? or we use it to offend someone? I wonder what d'you think of it.

p.s. I'm Russian

well...
firstly, i have no idea who do you mean under the pronoun "we" - russians? "we" - you and me? "we" - you, me and "padonki"?
Secondly, I am really glad to heat that i am still able to amuse someone, even if this the lack of my vocabulary and poverty of grammar
Thirdly, concerning the question you have asked, "падонский" Russian is used within runet, though sometimes it appeares to get offline. Should one get offended with the phrases mentioned above or not, is his own business. I would personally say that getting such comments is less insultive to me that if i have gotten them in "real" life

I meant "we=Russians" ;-)
and I was talking not only about you or your opinion.
that's why I came here - to read...what d'you think of our communicating in runet and in real life. your're wrong, dear. because even if we use this slang in real life - we don't mean to offend someone (if someone do - believe me, they do it without this slang ;-) )

first, imho, but you should understand russian mentality to catch what we do on purpose (it's as you said "this is not meant to be rude or insulting?")
may be you asked for help in translating by not sutable tone or you've just been misunderstood?

and second. don't you think that everyone who uses slang (even in UK, USA ect.) has an general aim to insult you? imho, but there should be enough sense of humor to understand that slang (and Russian "падонки" slang also)is not always try to offend someone.

Don't take it close to heart (and tell your friend not to). This commenter evidently was some trolling teenager with a perverted sense of humour. This happens in the Internet, you know. You either learn not to be annoyed by them or you stop using Internet at all :-)

The words quoted in the original post were not just "slang", they were rude, obscene and offensive.

And no one here except you is talking about "everyone who uses slang". The question was about these words in particular and the particular context in which they were used. That was a deliberate insult. Maybe it is a norm among you and your friends but in general it is not.

oryx_and_crake, вы знаете русский, как я понимаю?
что там с фотографией произошло? откаментили на падонках? будто вы не знаете, как стОит воспринимать подобные явления в рунете. И делать выводы, что русские все хамы - тоже не следует, правда?
тем более, в отношении меня лично. мне так же неприятны подобные ситуации, но если на каждый подобный момент реагировать так..хм...

I repeat, this community was created to assist people learning Russian - not for socialising and/or discussing your views on somebody else's behaviour. The working language of this community is English. And the discussion you are trying to start is offtopic. The question was about the meaning of these particular words and the only person who started making some inferences about Russian people in general was you. Please stop. Read the community rules and behave accordingly or leave. Thank you.

First, please note that this community was created to assist people in learning Russian, and not to give you a pleasant reading or a place to satisfy your personal curiosity. Therefore, your question/remark is an off-topic that is not welcome here. Second, when you ask people for something (their opinion, for example), you could at least be polite. Please keep in mind that they do not owe you anything and do not have to answer if they don't want to.
