Ok, I'm an absolute beginner :/

What does афтар mean? Neither one of my dictionaries know the answer and online translators just tell me it means "aftar" which really doesn't mean anything, either.

Intentional misspelling of "автор". Neither "увей" nor "увий" or "увй" are russian words. The word on the picture is "убей".

"афтар" is a distored form of word "автор" (author). nowadays it's quite popular among russian internet users to alter words in such way.

>The drawing says увей, the dictionary spells it увий and увй. How come?

All variants are incorrect. The correct one is "убей".

Why is this? Can it be equated with any English-language netspeak distortion that I would be familiar with?

oh you're onto something that has been and, sadly enough, still is a new pop-hysteria in ru.internet. the idea of a new sort of language for the rebellious uptight net surfers goes that one has to write all the freakin words as incorrectly as you can, yet it has to sound equally to the original words you're trying to write.
афтар is a "parody" on автор which means, every dictionary will say, "author".
"Aftar ubej sebja" means literally that the author of a particular post or a piece of art-work ("креатифф") should kill him/herself coz what he's posted is just THAT bad...

can be translated in some kind of "auffa kil yaselv". Also you can use "убейсибяапстенку" - "kil yaselv by runin on da wal" or "выпей йаду" - "drunk da poizon". The method is rather simple - just juse phonetical mirror of the words, write them like you hear them. Also some kind of philosophy is included in all these styles of perverted writing:)

Афтар is deliberate misspelling of автор (author). Such misspellings (and the whole sentence on picture) are marks of a net subculture known as падонки.

Я огорчен!

It means Author, kill yourself. Дахуя букафф means the comment is too bloody long. I suppose, then, that I had better cut this one off, before somebody shoots me.

Большой спасибо for your rapt attention to this critical matter. I was just leaving.

Good bye.

I hope that the language of "падонки" will die soon. Russian language is beautiful!
