Зависит от контекста. Если фраза стоит сама по-себе, правильно: "Ну надо же!"

Но вот обратный пример:
"Но надо же было такому случиться, что..."

I am sorry but the community rules state clearly that people MAY post in Russian but in this case they SHOULD provide an English translation. The community does not exist for [livejournal.com profile] mixturaverborum's sake only. There are other people here who are unable to benefit from the comments unless these comments are made in English (or an English translation provided). Thanks in advance for your understanding.

If you read carefully the initial question of the thread you refer to, you would see that the author of the question asked for a Russian translation for a particular expression. I don't really think that one can give a Russian translation in English.

It is not recommended to be rude to moderators.

Both are correct, but the meaning is different. "No" is "but" (so using it impies some kind of opposition to something said before) while "nu" is just an emphasizing particle.

we use the first phrase very ve-ery unoften. The second one is better.

Second one..
The first one is just a part of one sentence.
e.g. Но надо же нам это сделать, иначе ...
But we should do it, otherwise..

Ну is interjection and Но is a conjunction

P.S. Why don't you try [livejournal.com profile] practicerussian where you can post your Russian writing and people can answer in Russian.
