Привет! I was just wondering if anyone has ever done this program located at the Lomonosov
Moscow State University (MSU) campus and has any comments about the program's academic value, or the university itself and its facilities and accommodations.

MGU (from the Russian abbreviation) is quite prestigious, probably the most prestigious university in Russia in general (excepting MGIMO, another story) -- not a guarantee of their Russian-for-foreigners program but a generally positive comment. I only went there a couple of times and found it to be kind of annoying in terms of the cafeteria (expensive, bad) and location, but whatever - it's Russia.

Amusement at a section from About Us: "There are no bad or good cultures. One culture could not be better than another. All of them are simply different. And in this sense Russian culture with its thousand-year history is a part of the modern civilization." Oh, those Russians...

Haha, uh... I've heard different things from different Russians about MGU. I knew people from Petersburg who swear they got a better education there, for example.

And I meant the location of MGU within Moscow isn't superconvenient because the metro line going out there is stupid and slow.

And Russians will be Russians ;)

It is as fast and frequent as any other metro line.

And for Christ's sake, buy yourself a used Russian car for $20 and enjoy driving around and not relying on public transportation.

Not really.
The feel of enjoyment and happiness is in your head, not somewhere in your car.

Besides, 500-dollar Ford Escort or Dodge Neon or Honda Civic (the cars commonly driven by US students) are not much better that 20-dollar Lada, believe me.

Fair, but my post wasn't about prestige, if that's what you mean.

Besides, 500-dollar Ford Escort or Dodge Neon or Honda Civic (the cars commonly driven by US students) are not much better that 20-dollar Lada, believe me.

OK. So is this experience really an enjoyment for a person interested in driving, not Fixing & Repairing?

Besides, the choice of sufficiently cheap used foreign cars in Moscow isn't limited by the makes you listed here. And you can buy one that won't break daily.

Anyway I was just poking fun, and you took it too seriously. I presume you're just being "patriotic" here.

How the location of MSU is worse than the one of, say, Harvard or Oxford?

Its come to my attention that the program isn't really offically part of MGU, but simply operates on its campus and shares some is its staff.

As far as the location, I can see on the metro map that its pretty far out. Does anyone know how long the trip takes by metro? or how much the trip costs by cab/chastnik?

I can't answer about the cab, because it's been years since I lived in Moscow/Russia and I rarely took cabs anyway, but the metro took... uh... 25-30 minutes to get to the center? It goes over some bridge and get all rickety and annoying and sometimes pitch black, or did when I was there. It might be better now.

I'm studyding at Russian right now at МГУ. I've only had one class so far but it was pretty intense. If you'd like, you can email me with more questions and I'll let you know how things go further into the course. I've only been here a week but I absolutely LOVE Russia so far, despite the snow and the cold weather and the stares. ;)

MVTU is quite a mediocre engineering school, and always has been, at least for last 50 years or so.

True, but unlike Phystech, Bauman has programs for visiting students and foreigners. They're also right next to a Metro station ;)

The problem is that Physteh and Bauman are tecnical universities. You can study there or phisics o maths...MGU has all the departments, and there is a special department "russian language for foreigners".
