Is there one word for Russian folk identity? I keep thinking it's something like народность, but I also keep thinking that I'm wrong.

Yes, one of the meanings of народность means something like this.

Another meaning is "a small nation without a state".
(You're welcome!)
Back to the first meaning, it means more exactly "closeness to Russian folk", "having a spirit of Russian folk" and was especially popular in the 19th century among higher social stratum.

Bearing in mind all the connotations of "highly spiritual simple people" idealized by aforesaid higher stratum...

"народность" is "a small nation without a state" ? or you means russian folk ?!

To Nomi: I can't understand, how you want to describe Russian folk or other by one word? It's impossible, because folk has many side's of art.... For example:
Russian folk has writing side("Былины, сказки.."), painting side ("Рисунок по дереву (Хохлома)...") etc.
"народность" is a general side for each other folk...

I'm sorry for my English, if I made mistake's, correct me please...

I didn't understand this, sorry.
"Народность" is a term meaning something between a nation (нация) and a tribe (племя).

Note that the word народность in Russian has two different meanings.
Народность as a description of a certain enthnic group really means "a small nation without a state" - didn't you know that? There's a firm difference between народ, народность, племя, этническая группа etc. You cannot say "русская народность" in this sense, only "русский народ".
The original poster's question has much to do with the other meaning of "народность" - the name of a quality, not of an ethnic group. As a quality, "народность" means exactly "closeness to Russian folk" - as in the famous formula: "Православие, самодержавие, народность".

национальное самосознание is very close. It's often used and it means folk's feeling of its unity, greatness and identity.
