тут vs. вот

How does тут differ from вот?

Here is the house. Тут дом.
Here is the house. Вот дом.
The house is here. Дом тут.
Дом вот.

I am asking because I am sure there is a (not so?) subtle difference in meaning that I am failing to notice.

The second and third examples pretty much summarize the difference.
The first one is somewhat non-standard (although acceptable).

Non-standard, you say? I'm working from a paperback book that was published in the early 1960s, and the author uses "тут ___" more often than the other examples I gave. That's why I put it first in my post. Ah, that really amuses me. I love the way languages change over time.

Тут дом sounds very unusual. I don't think it sounded any better in the 60-s.

I can think only of one context in which it would be acceptable - when you describe different parts of a picture, pointing at each of the objects on it: тут дом, тут дерево, тут трава, тут небо, тут солнце.
Still it sounds kind of... childish.

In your examples "вот" is used if you are actually pointing at the house: see, here it is. "Тут" is used to state the fact that the house is here and not over there. (Of course, in this situation you may also point at it.)

Grammatically, "вот" is a particle, "тут" is an adverb.

In Latin "вот дом" = "ecce domus", "тут дом" = "hic est domus".

"тут" is describing any place: вот тут, слева, у нас дом.
But "вот" is used when u just wanna draw attention to any object: вот дом, что мы искали.
