in several journals now I see a reference to "Бобруйск" obviously as a joke
I dont get it and google was no help -- can someone explain the reference?

It's kind of an inner joke of Russian LJ-users. Instead of telling your opponent to go to hell (or to the general area of male genitals, which also happens) you tell them to go to Bobrujsk.

I don't know how this expression came to be. There is nothing special in Bobrujsk as such to justify this usage.
